As I promised - some photoshoot pics. I loved styling Ana Cristina (or any model for that matter because they all apparently fit my clothes) from Ignite, who is a natural mover. Altogether, the girl is just a straight up gangsta: shooting outside in summer clothes in the dead of winter (did I mention we live in Minnesota?), hanging out of windows, climbing up into cupboards, etcetera. <3.

The first set is from the shoot I did with Ana/Taylor/Mel/JJ/Amber. I'm also attaching some photos of Ana shot by my favorite hippie/rapper/photographer Madison Dube - which I was present for but did NOT style. To be honest, was kind of wierded out by having to just stand there & observe instead of styling. Mel & I were like crackheads getting all jittery, just wanted to throw a watch or a belt on it (her)... okay, crackhead is probably a bad comparison. PS. Keep in mind, Maddy has been using her throwback film camera for her shoots including the Black Onyx one we did awhile back. #dropdeadtalented, right? I may or may not include some BHS photos from the shoot with Taylor later (it includes a styled giraffe). Enjoy! xx Davee

I have since retired my black men's beanie after I threw it in the wash & it came out looking like a sack ginormous enough to go over my entire face/head. My sweet pea Melly was kind enough to pick me up a new one, so naturally I wore it right away. I apologize in advance for the green on green action here. We're in the midst of #mspfw and I'm ashamed to say I've only made it to one event (and took no pictures whatsoever), I promise to take some at tomorrow's show - which I will be posting along with photos from Saturday's shoots. Hopefully. Anyways - off to the science museum to check out the Pirates exhibit w/the boyf. xx

In celebration of MLK day (kinda) - I did a photoshoot with my favorite fashion dreamteam. With Maddy's vintage Canon in tow, an orphan couch Mel & Maddy found on the street & my co-worker's crazy (but effing awesome) vintage sweater - we got right down to business. Love me some good, honest styling, I could pra do this in my sleep - actually guessing by some people's questionable looks at my OOTD's, plenty of ppl probably think I do exactly that. Anyway, the final product was just so amazeballs there was no way I couldn't share these, hope you like. xx.

The lappytop has made a full comeback :) Thank the good lawd! Haven't been doing much since the start of the new year except for attending Twolves games apparently, so here's a quick post of what I wore to the game last Wednesday. Obv nothing too inneresting - just the basics.

The Boyf & I just celebrated 3 years yesterday. He surprised me with a personal delivery of budding orchids at work followed by dinner at Piccolo. All the dishes were absolutely delicious, but my favorite by far involved scrambled eggs (no surprise there) & pig's feet. Trust me - it was amaze-balls!

Here's what I wore last night to dinner - ever since I got my Christmas prez from BF (rose gold MK watch), I've been laying off the accessories & keeping it minimal, because the watch is enough in itself. #love. xx.

Two Christmases.

Promise this will be my last Christmas-related post (sadly for me) until next year. Spent Christmas Eve w/the Pipers & Christmas day at my house. Hope everyone's holiday was as wonderful as mine - aside from getting some awesome gifts (Harry Potter cookbook & a yoga puppies calendar to name a few) - the best gift of all was spending the holidays w/loved ones playing the dice game for prizes (lots of household cleaning items & in my niece's case - a book about the 1st cold war lol), having both king crablegs & tur-duck-en for dinner followed by ham the next day, tricking my nephews into thinking they didn't get the videogames they wished for, taking Christmas jello shots & watching baby Yves open presents w/mommy but preferring the wrapping paper instead. #purebliss. xx.

Haven't quite put the finishing touches on my Spruce Mix tree just yet but found this amazing photo on pinterest so I had to try out my camera skills for the (semi) same effect. maybe you already know this, but i really love my utility/cargo jacket. in fact, i have 2 of them. i've always had a strong liking for slightly masculine things, most recently i found myself perusing the perfume aisle @ sephora searching for the perfect scent only to end up falling in love w/the Chanel Bleu for MEN. : x

These pants evoke numerous nicknames - mermaid pants, Cambodian pants and sometimes people just have to ask "what are those?!". Talk about pants power! Either way, I love 'em. There's a semi-geeky story behind them, but only fellow fashion fanatics would truly understand so I'll save it for a rainy day.

The necklace is newly acquired, picked it up at Chicago Fashion Week's shopping event in Millennium Park over the weekend. The boyf chose (& purchased) it and I couldn't help but love it too as I do with everything tortoise shelled. xxo, davee

today was a long day for the girls & i at Secrets Fashion Agency, we had a 10AM photocall for an upcoming fashion show. then the tables were turned on us as we were put in front of the cameras for the I AM MPLS promo shoot. last year, i covered the event so i got to see firsthand just how amazingly vast the talent was. with that being said, it's such an honor for us to be nominated for this year's show. plus, it's produced by one of my favorite people in mpls - Sarah Edwards, who btw, has killer style (lusting after the leopard print kimono and strappy boots she had on today!!).

sorry i've been a little MIA, blame mnfashion week & my annual Chicago shopping haul w/the besties. i feel especially bad since i've had numerous readers during my hiatus tell me how much they love reading this blog :( but not to worry, i'm back with full force y'all!

amazing things happened (and were acquired) during my chicago trip -- including meeting the generously humble owner of akira chicago. if you do not already know who they are, you NEED to click on the link. i'll be updating the Secrets Fashion Agency blog about that experience alongside some visuals, so be sure to check that out. i'll leave you with what i wore to work today (sans the goth purple lipstick) and yes that is a pen in my hair - totally office appropriate, mind you. got this mustard skirt last winter on clearance, pretty much one of the best investment pieces ever since mustard is huge this fall. i added just the bare minimum when it came to accessories because sometimes all you need is a simple, clean silhouette and a classic accessory or two. xxo

I lied! I was able to squeeze in a quick photoshoot of what I wore to work today before rushing off to model/designer fittings for Envision. I sometimes think my best outfits are conceptualized during groggy mornings before work when I am hastily trying to throw together something appropriate with a little bit of a punch for good measure. I'm wearing some newly acquired pieces gifted by some of my besties - the vest from Mel (perfect for adding a little interest to any outfit) & the pumps from Stephy (going to pair these with EVERYTHING <3). These were taken by my friend Dan at Cathedral Hill, isn't it beautiful here? Enjoy! xxo.

Hi Everyone! Sorry I missed a week of posting, I took a last minute trip out to NYC over the weekend. By last minute, I mean like I only knew I was going the same morning that I left. Unfortunately, didn't really get to attend any FNO/NYFW events but I did some major damage in SoHo & ate some really delicious food (craving some Bonchon Chicken as I type). Anyhow, I probably won't have time for any posts this week either, because I'll be prepping for this (see below) with my team - Secrets Fashion Agency. Received my new Canon 50 mm f/1.8 camera lens in the mail (and some other things I will unveil shortly) and I just couldn't wait to test them out; that would probably explain my fresh-out-of-the-shower hair. I'm wearing an old beaded vest I got in one of my one-day shopping excursions to Chicago with the bestie & a dress I borrowed from my cousin in Vegas and never quite returned. I'm totally loving how the quality of the photos just went up a couple notches, hope you liketh them as much as i do. PS. Went in to see Marina at Moxie for a quick trim before work today - you can probably tell because my hair actually looks healthy. It was too hot to wear anything prim, proper and all buttoned up so I opted for light, loose clothing. These Madewell sweats are one of my favorite things in my closet - love them paired with a perfect simple black pump! Usually I wear them with my pointy-toed stilettos but those are currently still in need of some major sand-draining (don't ask). PS - really starting to love the way my ombre is growing out, I just may have to cancel my hair appt!

inspired by the unconventional color schemes from the resort 2012 shows, i thought i would concoct my own odd pairing with a maroon/burgundy blazer i stole from my mom's closet & my peach equipment-wanna-be silk blouse. people always tell me that "my clothes don't match" & i happily concur... i was going to take it a step further today by wearing grey suede wedge boots, but that would just be unrealistic in this weather. oh and the leather bag i'm carrying which is from the original Coach classics collection, i found a couple months ago at goodwill. it was seriously the best five dollars i've ever spent. and even more awesome since they re-released the classics collection this year, and you can find almost every relevant fashion blogger out there toting a bag from said collection.

p.s. don't mind the hair, i felt a little adventurous today but i think it's safe to say that the 'milkmaid braid' is definitely not suited for my face shape, more specifically - my chipmunk cheeks. xo

Since it's inception, I've been vying for a piece from Kate Bosworth's jewelry collection, Jewelmint. I received a tweet with a half off code and I knew it was a sign that it was time. I ended up getting the 'bullet necklace' and the 'brixton earrings' - pieces I think could make an outfit. In honor of the aforementioned style icon, I thought I would do a Kate-inspired post, mixing tomboy-ish basics (Furfaceboy tshirt Angel gave me & baggy denim cut-offs) with a little something feminine (sparkly, basket-weave flats). FYI - my legs were roasting like hot platters down in FL, so don't mind the brisket-esque effect. :(

Minnie had a heat index of 119 degrees today and determined as I was to do an outdoor outfit post, as soon as I brought out the SLR, the transition of the central air in the house & the heat outside was a no-go for my lens. They fogged up faster than you can say "Minnesauna". Don't mind the ethnic house furnishings :)

I've been meaning to show off my favorite new accessories gifted from my future SIL, but these pictures don't do them justice. My absolute favorite is the coral beaded bracelet, I'll post up a more detailed picture later. xo

Color Blockage

I saw lots of beautiful, bold color-blocking at the Resort 2012 shows and it inspired me to inject some color into my work wardrobe even though I have to wear a labcoat :( It's what's on the inside that counts, I guess. I picked up these trousers at the SXSW style x where American Apparel held their 3rd annual factory flea market. The lines to get in were insane, but Mina & I snuck in after the rush-- enabling me to score these babies for a fraction of the cost. Makes me miss Austin & all the awesome fashion finds there. Anyway, to finish the look I topped it off with a sleek ponytail and a structured bag. Don't mind the ghetto Latin Kings crown tat on the back (circa my gangster days lol). :/ PS- Charlie made another cameo-- second pic, lower left corner... gotta love her. xxo

As of late, the rainy weather in MN has been making feel like I live in Forks, Washington aka land of Edward Cullen. Which, I probably wouldn't mind... Anyway, I decided to shoot in the rain regardless, just wish my camera was cool enough to capture raindrops though.

We recently had new neighbors move into the house next door whereas previously it was occupied by an elderly lady who rarely ventured outside. Now we have Mexicans. And man, do they love to garden/landscape! Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that I now have less privacy in my backyard to prance around in fancy clothes, high heels and makeup.. my little show has gained an audience :( WAH! So that's my sorry excuse for crappy photos today (aren't they never-ending?).

I secretly love all things baggy, but I am in noway a tomboy (in fact, very far from it). That's where my love for loose boy fit shorts, sweaters and masculine jackets come from. I love pairing all of the above with one very feminine thing, and in today's post, what else could be more femme than a pair of sexy, sleek pumps? Very a la Ashley Olsen :) Oh and the belt is something I picked up at this awesome vintage boutique, 'Feathers' in Austin TX when I was there for SXSW earlier this year. Like I promised, here's the little shoot I did of my coral & peaches outfit. As you may already be able to tell, I'm a little obsessed with coral-- on lips, clothes, whatever. It's like a self-tanner, sans the orange oompa loompa color, can't go wrong with that. Oh and as always, I had to sneak in some pics of my loves: the boyf, Charlie & my mug-ful of Butterbeer that I concocted last week (total success!). In case you're wondering, here's the recipe I used:

-bottle of vanilla cream soda
-1/2 cup of butterscotch syrup (icecream topping)
-1/2 tablespoon of butter
-1/4 cup of sweetened condensed milk (optional since the above ingredients are already major sweeteners)

Microwave butterscotch syrup, butter and sweetened condensed milk for 1 1/2 minutes, remove and cool for 30 seconds. Pour in vanilla cream soda, mixture will begin to fizz quite a bit. Add cream soda as needed, and voila-- you have yourself a homemade Butterbeer. (Butterbeer mug not included)

sorry for the sudden leave of absence. my colleagues (Secrets Fashion Agency) & i have been busy putting together the finishing touches to our fashion show. 3 weeks and counting. eeeeek. & we have also just returned from SXSW's first ever, Style X event, where we met some amazing designers, other entrepreneurs, fashion reporters/bloggers and oh yeah, the amazing chloe dao (project runway winner season two)! seriously though, they really do live up to their reputation down there, because it was nothing but southern hospitality 247. as soon as the craziness from the fashion show is over, i promise to post pics up from austin & a new outfit post.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! i've been a bad blogger, i know. :( quite ironic (alanis morrissette would probably agree) seeing as how i now have the essentials necessary to make consistent posts. :/

in celebration of st. valentine, the boyf & i perused the Walker Art Center while sipping soy chais, only to be told that a) drinks are not allowed in the galleries & b) in certain galleries, neither is my SLR.. all-around failures yesterday lol. anyhow, afterwards, we went home & got ready for dinner at Meritage, a cute little French restaurant, predominantly known for its' seafood. it was delish, but i'll let the pictures speak for themselves. most importantly though was the fact that this occasion was cause for, not one but TWO fabulous outfits. yaye. FYI: this post is going to be picture-heavy, it should make up for the 2 weeks i've lacked in posting, happy loading! xxo

Yesterday, Secrets Fashion Agency interviewed the amazingly-talented Gerald Edwards Jr. of NSOD Clothing. He is so awesome, he deserves a whole blog post to himself, which I will be posting on the Secrets blog later tonight, complete with pictures-- so check that out. Anyway, here is what I wore to Gerald's Spring 2011 launch/interview party last night. Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE prints, and this Navajo print sweater is no exception. The necklace pictured above is one of my favorite pieces of all time, I get compliments every time I wear it, I have never had to buff or clean it once & it still shines like it's brand new (I got it 7 years ago!). just playing around with the close-up lens that has been collecting dust in my camera case. decided to practice on my wrist-essentials after mina gave me a mini SLR lesson via text message, "just hold camera really still & then shoot" LOL. i wear these religiously even though 5 days out of the week, i am wearing a lab coat, not exactly the most complimentary ensemble for my babies but what can you do? & the last picture is of jack, my little sister's (really annoying) cat. and according to my parents-- he also goes by the name of 'michael YACKson' (my mum can't say her j's) & 'jackie'.

some more snapshots from the SFA team photoshoot from my camera. i am just about the worst model in the world, but somehow angel managed to make me look half-decent to say the least. i especially dislike the second picture but i really wanted you guys to see the shoes. aren't they TDF? the modern version of cinderella's glass slipper + ombre heel to match my ombre hair... i always knew i was a princess :) my new favorite piece of jewelry at the moment is that jade ring, cheap but oh-so-perfect with any outfit, dressed up or down.

after being postponed because of the holidays and such, sfa had our first team photo shoot this past weekend! the weather tried to derail us but 12 hours later & it was a done deal. each girl had their own table (or two, in angel's case) where we set up all our accessories, clothes, purses, hosiery, etcetera. multiply that by six & mayhem was sure to ensue. clothes were borrowed to us by Drama Boutique & bumbershute, and accessories from fringe boutique. the concept of the shoot was created by mina & mels, the two resident stylists of sfa, makeup by our beauty guru susie boo & lovely locks provided by the big boss angel-a. lastly, photography was done by bm photograph llc -- a big thanks to all of our collaborators. can't wait to see the finished product.

I'm trying to get into the habit of waking up early enough before work (instead of the usual 30 minutes before I have to go) so that I can actually put some thought into my outfit of the day. Scrubs would suffice, except that I don't own any & they're pretty damn expenso if you ask me. That 30-60 dollars could well go towards a pair of sale shoes, accessory or something more fashionable, no? Easiest way to make an outfit an actual outfit? ACCESSORIZE. The homies & I are trying to step out of the mediocre, so we don't do friendship bracelets, but rather friendship CUFFS. Holla. Oh, sorry in advance for the crotch shots, focus on the accessories, not the 'toe.
